I scored a 6 out of 10 stars I’d say. Not a total fail but I really bombed on Monday….
Labor Day weekend. It’s one of my favorite holidays for reasons close to my heart. For one, my husband’s birthday usually falls that weekend (as it did this year) and sometimes our wedding anniversary will fall on that weekend (like it did the year we got married). Plus it’s a three-day vaca from work and who doesn’t like that? Yeah, I don’t know of anyone who doesn’t!
I had my weekend planned but I knew it would be a busy one. Saturday my dad arrived in town from Kansas and I ended up having to shelve my Zumba workout because we were behind on some stuff at home that I had to get done before he showed up and my siblings came down for dinner. I don’t have my Fitbit One yet — excited to get it in the mail — and I would love to know how many steps I had on just Saturday because I was running errands, cleaning up the house and just plain moved my booty all day until about 5pm! And while I didn’t bother to track my calories I made good food choices, watched the sweets urge (squashed it!) and ate balanced.
Sunday involved lots of walking again as I went to the mall and tried in vain to find something special to wear to dinner for my husband’s birthday. Y’all, I couldn’t find a single thing! I’m in this awkward stage where I haven’t dropped a size in shirts or pants but the size I’m currently wearing is starting to almost look like a tent so I’m stuck. Of course don’t get me started on the clothing industry and the lack of consistent sizing—rage! It also doesn’t help that I’m a picky dresser and what I want to wear I can’t really fit into yet. Plus, there’s so much in stores that I am not a fan of because I never dress trendy or fashion forward at all. So I need to wait a little longer before spending money on some new shirts until I hopefully drop a size. I’m also at a point I need new jeans and bras because both of them aren’t fitting well now either. Losing weight is great but needing new clothes throughout this process will be costly if I don’t watch what I buy! To the sales lady who recommended the pair of jeans at Macy’s because they “do wonders for the butt and tummy” and they were $130—are you freakin’ kidding me?
Speaking of my husband’s birthday, we had a wonderful time and enjoyed some amazing steak at MacKenzie’s Chophouse here in Colorado Springs. Set in the basement of a former hotel (now fancy law offices), the restaurant preserved the rough stone laid walls, added nice low lighting, old black and white photos of the downtown area and amazing service. I do believe we had two servers actually assigned to our table and enough extra staff for delivering food, filling drinks and checking on us the place was a well oiled machine! We’ll definitely have to go back sometime again. Jon, my husband, went with a bison steak, jalapeno creamed corn and a layered potato side while I chose an angus coulotte (top sirloin basically but special I guess) seasoned nicely on the outside and cooked medium rare – it was amazing – with some colorful carrots and truffle-parmesan fries. To say that we left extremely happy was an understatement.
My husband and I both had off for Labor Day and we pretty much vegged out most of the day. I kept telling myself to get to the gym, but I just wasn’t feeling it. I watched the last half of the final season for Everybody Loves Raymond on Amazon Prime, ate some bread with seasoned olive oil, kicked back and just didn’t do a whole lot. I regret not going to the gym. I felt like I totally wasted my day and I certainly didn’t get anything done around the house like I had planned. I’m not going to beat myself up too much for it though. My weekends are usually busy and productive lately so maybe I just needed a day. Who knows.
This coming weekend though I will not repeat said bumfest!
How was your weekend? What did you do to stay active and make healthy choices? And if you flaked a little like I did, confess, what did you do?
